FAQs

We have exciting news! Since you all have been following Esther's story for the past year (we couldn't have fought as hard as we did without your prayers, meals, donations, and flexibility!), you have most likely seen and heard about #EsthersMiracle and EsthersMiracle.org. Since Esther charged Jim and myself "to help other kids with ports" (which is what she wanted to do when she grew up), New Heart Christian School is expanding to become Esther's Miracle, Inc. and host a number of special programs - in addition to NHCS.

Esther's Miracle, Inc. plan was adopted by the Board of Directors on 4/15/23. The goals of NHCS remain the same, with a slight change in emphasis on our community service projects to serve "kids with ports" (kids and their families impacted by cancer and other childhood diseases).  NHCS' Facebook page will reflect this update for the rest of the year as Esther's Miracle / New Heart Christian School. We will also have a separate NHCS Group hosted by Esther's Miracle page. There will be individual Groups for each of Esther's Miracle programs (details to come soon).

We're excited to continue partnering with you and your families as God continues to grow this mission. We're blessed beyond measure to partner with you, your children, and both our local and global community to see EVERY child grow up and fulfill the special plans God has for his/her life.

What ages or grades do you enroll?

We take students K-12!  NHCS follows Nebraska kindergarten age guidelines, requiring students to be 5 or older on or by July 31 to be enrolled.  As soon as possible, we will also be licensed for child care (6 weeks through kindergarten age), and our bigger goals also include a licensed child care program and college level courses.

Which subjects will you teach and what curriculum do you provide? Which subjects do I teach and what curriculum do I provide?

We assist your child(ren) with the assignments they have from the homeschool curriculum you have chosen.  NHCS will provide discovery classes/workshops and field trips to libraries, playgrounds and parks, museums, and more.  We are currently developing the multiple intelligences and problem-based discovery-learning levels and checklists as NHCS grows and expands and plan to begin implementing this for 2022-23 school year.

Who will be doing the teaching or supervising?

Mrs. Desrosiers has six years teaching experience in both private and public schools, Bachelors' degrees in Music and Elementary Education, and a Master's degree in PreK-12 Educational Administration.  Parents are also invited to visit, teach, socialize, ask questions, brainstorm, plan field trips, lead activities or projects, and so on!

My kid has a peanut allergy. Will you be peanut free?

We are not currently set up as a peanut-free environment, but are willing to work with you and your child's need and make accommodations to the best of our ability.

Who provides snacks/meals?

Food is brought from home. Non-refrigerated items may be kept in the children's cubbies to have snacks and other items on hand.  There is a refrigerator and a microwave in the cafeteria.

What if my child is doing e-learning/all virtual learning?

Your child can do his/her work at NHCS on a device and receive support and assistance as well. We have WiFi network and password signs posted throughout.  Plus, s/he would benefit from all the social aspects of being with others in person!

What is the school calendar?

We plan to be open year-around to meet families' summer child care and educational needs as well.  We will be closed for Christian and American holidays, and as needed for staff appointments/healing days.  Check the Calendar tab on our website for upcoming dates.

Do you take children who have special needs?

New Heart Christian School is a general education school...we do not, at this time, offer special education services such as speech/language, counseling/therapy, or learning/behavior disorder evaluations.  In order to serve students and their families to the best of our abilities, children should have a general desire to learn and try new things (be curious and self-motivated to explore), be growing into independent learners and problem-solvers, and willingly accept guidance and direction from adults.
